Genesis 35:1-36:43
- Renaming of Jacob. "Israel" means "struggled" or "wrestled" with God. This is something that has stayed with the Jewish people - tradition of midrash, arguing, debating, wrestling with the stories and with God.
- God reaffirms the covenant once again
- Things are being set up for the story of the brothers, Joseph, etc.
- I love the phrase - that Isaac was "gathered to his people."
Matthew 12:1-21
- Jesus is once again reinterpreting the law
- More "bold and direct" Jesus
- Matthew - Jesus as a fulfillment of prophecy
Psalm 15 and Proverbs 3:21-26
- Psalm 15 - Sounds a bit like Matthew 7 - strong foundation.
- Proverbs 3:21-26 - Feels like it is right in line with recent Psalms, eh?
