February 7 - Exodus 4:1 - 5:21, Matthew 18:1-20, Psalm 22:19-31, Proverbs 5:15-21

Exodus 4:1 - 5:21

  • Moses - so human.  Resisting the call, giving excuses, as all of us have done and still do.
  • Moses lies to Jethro, his father-in-law about why he wants to go back to Egypt
  • 4:24 - I feel like there's a story or something that got lost in the communication here of why this happens
  • The oppression of the Hebrews - a story as old as time and continues to repeat itself to the modern day

Matthew 18:1-20

  • What does a child's humility look like?
  • Next part flows into protecting those who seek to be following in this humble way
  • Lost sheep parable-  still connected to what came before.  God is seeking after these humble ones
  • The reconcile section connects here as well.  Feels that this is a process for one who has put up a stumbling block

Psalm 22:19-31

  • Psalm 22 - Ideally read the whole Psalm.  Notice the "dialogue" or back and forth that goes on especially in the first half.  How do you hear this as an inner conversation by the writer?  Also notice the strength of the language used.  Looking at the 2nd half specifically today it moves to praise and turns to the recognition of God and God's power
  • Proverbs 5:15-21 - More on faithfulness in relationships
