February 8 - Exodus 5:22-7:25, Matthew 18:21-19:12, Psalm 23, Proverbs 5:22-23

Exodus 5:22-7:25

  • Moses - when it got hard, he wanted to give up.  Again pretty human.  Watch for his growth through the story though
  • 6:3 - "I did not make myself known to them" - feels like an acknoweldgment that the form of faith was still not fully there for the Hebrew people.  God was still (and is still) speaking
  • Genealogy - notice that we learn the parents of Moses here
  • Is the "hardening" an interpretation of "why didn't the Pharaoh just see the reality in front of him?"
  • Several theories that the first plagues are a natural progression of one event to another

Matthew 18:21-19:12

  • There is so much grace with our brokenness
  • Parable flows from that - when we hold unforgiveness or use it as a bludgeon.  Thus ends the sin/forgiveness "section" - are you seeing some of the "sections" of the book?
  • Is 19:11 saying that this only applies to those who have gotten married?  Also what do you think of what Jesus says about eunuchs here?

Psalm 23 and Proverbs 5:22-23

  • Psalm 23 - The first part of the Psalm is the natural movement of a shepherd with sheep.  It isn't a bunch of separate ideas but instead what the life of a shepherd and sheep looked like.  Then it moves to a celebration of praise and gratitude for God's presence.  Note the video below about oil in the Bible
  • Proverbs 5:22-23 - They die for lack of discipline...
